Jane Vella Signs her Fifth Published Book in Raleigh

On Saturday evening September 8, 2008, Global Learning Partners, their staff and about 40 graduates came together to celebrate Jane signing her latest book published by Jossey-Bass - On Teaching and Learning: Putting the Principles and Practices of Dialogue Education into Action. A gathering of Dialogue Education™ practitioners is always energizing as such events provide an opportunity for sharing how each of us is applying the principles and practices in our work.

The book signing event was hosted by long time GLP Associates Joe and Sue Button at their home in Raleigh. This is Jane’s’ fifth book and her first since 2004. Her last book – Dialogue Education at Work: Case Studies, explored the application of Dialogue Education™ in diverse organizations and settings around the world.

Jane sat on the Button’s back porch where she said, “This is where I am most comfortable these days and do my best thinking.” As she signed books she shared her hopes and dreams for what this book might contribute to Dialogue Education™. She talked about social transformation and the power of learning through dialogue in this political season.

Perhaps the last sentence of the book says it best: “The means is dialogue, the end is learning and the purpose is peace.”
