Engagement at a Whole New Level

by Jay Ekleberry

Frequently when teaching others about Dialogue Education we will hear someone say, "This is engagement at a whole new level." And when we do we know that here is someone is starting to get it! The principle of engagement always plays a crucial role in the creation of my designs. The key question around this principle, always at the forefront is, "What is the learner going to do with the learning?" Designing at this level of engagement is indeed at a whole new level. There are many 'train the trainers' out there preaching engagement for engagement's sake. In Dialogue Education we are practicing and teaching engagement for learning's sake!

In the last couple of years I have also tried create engagement in the appreciative mode. In other words, create engagement around what is positive, right, and working in the learners' world. This adds further energy and helps ramp the learning up to the next level of engagement. Our brains are wired in the positive, let's engage our learners in the positive and help them help themselves create the knowledge they need around the subject we are facilitating!
