What Do You Think?

Some Suggestions for New Course Offerings at GLP
by Dwayne Hodgson
GLP International Programs Director

One of the very exciting conversations that we had at the Dialogue Education Institute Conference was about creating new courses or workshops that GLP could provide.

To date, most of our work has focused on providing workshops on the Dialogue Education Approach to learning design and facilitation. Our Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach, Advanced Learning Design and Teacher Certification workshops in particular have been well received.

But we also see the potential to expand our course offerings to consider new applications of Dialogue Education. A working group of GLP Associates already has a few ideas in mind, and they are exploring options for different " structures" these offerings might take (i.e. short group courses of different lengths, as well as more individualized technical assistance in which the offering is tailored to/ built around the work of the client) but we'd love to hear your feedback on the following:
  1. Which of the following 10 course ideas do you think would attract interest in your circles? Select two of these offerings for which you see high potential demand among your clients/colleagues in your work. Feel free to ask them and explain what they find interesting. Write us with your ideas at dhodgson@globalearning.com.

    a) Teaching, Facilitating, and Leading: Knowing your Role and Doing it Well
A course for experienced facilitators who are facilitating learning processes (e.g. strategic planning, writing vision and mission statements, problem solving).

    b) Introducing Dialogue Education into your Workshop
A short tutorial that would help training facilitators introduce dialogue education into their existing learning designs. This course would be more technical and focused on providing tips and tools that are relevant to that situation.

    c) Organizational Transformation: Sustaining the Dialogue Education Approach
A follow-up course for organizations that have begun to adapt Dialogue Education in their work, but who want to do so more consistently.

    d) SUREFire Meetings
A course on how to apply the Principles and Practices of Dialogue Education in a business meeting setting.

    e) Evaluation for Mutual Learning
A workshop that would help transform program evaluations into a learning process using dialogue education.

    f) The Appreciative Facilitator
A workshop on how to blend the insights of Appreciative Inquiry into learning facilitation.

    g) Strategic Learning Planning Course
A workshop that would help organizations be more intentional about becoming a "learning organization" and to consider how to develop individual and corporate learning plans.

    h) Quantum Learning
A workshop that explores how quantum theory informs the learning process for individuals and communities.

    i) The Principles & Practices: An Accelerated Workshop
A two day workshop that would cover the basics of Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach without the practice teaching sessions. It is intended for experienced facilitators who are not familiar with dialogue education, but who would like to take other GLP offerings (e.g. Advanced Learning Design).

    j) Dialogue Education for Online Learning
How to use Dialogue Education in distance education, internet and other technologically mediated environments.

(Please note that these are just provisional titles!)

    k)
Name another 1-2 offerings which your clients/ colleagues would be interested in attending but which are not on this list.
What other courses - either ones that you have already developed or ones that you could develop -- would you be interested in cross-marketing via an agreement with Global Learning Partners?

Please send your feedback to dhodgson@globalearning.com by August 1, 2005. Your suggestions will inform our future work!
