GLP
Canadian & International Programs

My work in Canada has focused recently on setting
up and marketing the 2005 public courses in Toronto and Ottawa, facilitating a
workshop on dialogue education for an international development NGO, and designing
curriculum on project planning and monitoring for two other non-profit organizations.
In January, we held a very successful
Advanced Learning
Design workshop. It was heartening to see several graduates of Canadian sessions
of Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach come back to deepen their learning and
hone their designs further (See Danielles inspiring
reflections on how dialogue education transformed her recent workshop in Bangladesh!).
I look forward to collaborating with several of these ALD graduates on new curriculum,
setting up additional courses, and other consulting opportunities.
Recently,
I have also undertaken some evaluation-related work for an exchange program for
Aboriginal youth, an agency providing public education workshops on mental health
issues and youth, and an United Nations agency.
...to
the world!
Since December 2004, I have
assumed responsibility for GLPs International Programs so that Peter can
focus on managing the business. This has greatly expanded the scope of my work
and allowed me to follow my passion of supporting international development organizations
to improve the quality and effectiveness of their training workshops. Recently,
we have supported a Learning
to Listen-Learning to Teach: The Power of Dialogue in Education Adults course
in Mexico, and we have plans for further courses in Hong Kong, the Philippines,
Nigeria and Ghana. A longstanding learning partner has also revisited us recently
to inquire about our interest in developing further staff development materials
in Asia. We are really a global organization!
I
am also working with Christina, our Communications Director, to convene the Dialogue
Education Institute Conference. I look forward to seeing many of you there
and meeting some of you for the first time. At the DEI, I will be facilitating
a workshop on ways that our wider network of Associates and Certified Teachers
can co-market courses that apply dialogue education to a wider range of topics.
I am excited by the potential that I see for GLP to work more intentionally with
its talented network of dialogue education practitioners to offer more content-based
workshops, and to expand our reach to be even more global!
Down
the hall my daughter, Zoe, continues to grow in stature, curiosity, and vocabulary.
Her most recent acquisitions have been the words why and because,
which means that she is already well on the way to becoming a skilled practitioner
of dialogue education. My wife, Tricia, is also busy juggling several contracts.
It is fun to meet in the hallway to compare notes as she designs some training
modules for an international development research organization here in Ottawa.
