Joan Dempsey, Director, Community Branch

Joan Dempsey started her tenure with Global Learning Partners as the Programs Manager in charge of contracts. In October 2011 she became the first Director of a new initiative at GLP, the Community of Dialogue Educators. Over the next several years Joan will create this new branch of our company, a branch designed to support Dialogue Educators around the world. We will:

  • enhance our educational offerings to those of you who are interested in expanding your learning about Dialogue Education;

  • increase teaching opportunities for certified Dialogue Education teachers;

  • initiate new products and services that can help you in your work with Dialogue Education;

  • bring back (by popular demand) the Dialogue Education Institute (planned for late 2013);

  • formalize a new Dialogue Education Studies program for certification in Dialogue Education;

  • and build a supportive online learning community of Dialogue Educators from around the world.

When Joan was first introduced to the principles and practices of Dialogue Education in GLP’s foundation course, Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach, she was immediately hooked. As someone who has worked for close to thirty years in the non-profit sector, Joan has conducted countless seminars and workshops and had always been looking for a learning method that would turn ordinary participants into engaged and extraordinary learners; Dialogue Education does just that! Joan has studied adult learning theory and applied the principles and practices of Dialogue Education while earning both her MFA and post-graduate teaching certificate in creative writing at Antioch University Los Angeles.

Joan holds a second master’s degree in management from Lesley University and a BA in philosophy, with a concentration in the Program for the Study of Faith, Peace, and Justice, from Boston College. For the past eleven years she has worked in various capacities in the field of animal protection and before that was active in the anti-nuclear peace movement. She lives in Maine with her partner of 13 years and is at work on her second novel.

Call Joan today at 207.926.6183 to learn how GLP can help you transform your teaching! We look forward to partnering with you.
