Tom is currently the best practices
coordinator for the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee, focusing on sharing
of lessons, practices, and resources among CRWRC staff in 30 countries.
Tom
has taught the Learning to Listen-Learning
to Teachcourse twice in Spanish and the primer version once in
English. Tom first learned about participatory adult education through SARAR training
in Mexico, popular education training in Costa Rica and through GLP courses. Over
the years he has mentored CRWRC and national counterpart staff in doing learning
designs.
Tom has worked for CRWRC in Honduras, Mexico,
Belize, Costa Rica, and Kenya. He has served as field director for Mexico and
Belize, Central America Zone Director, as interim leader for East & Southern
Africa and for Asia, and as developer of partnerships for business development
in Kenya (Partners for Christian Development).
Tom
has his MA in Bilingual Education from Grand Valley State Colleges, his MSc. in
Agronomy and Certificates in Latin American Stuies and Tropical Agriculture from
the University of Florida, and his PhD in Development Studies from the University
of East Anglia.
Every
time I participate in a dialogue education event I am amazed and rewarded by the
joy of people learning together. Yes, there is that "buzz" in the
room that you can hear. But, at a deeper level one can sense the growing and deepening
that is going on. I think Lewin was right--that this dialogue relates to the heart
of democracy.
