Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach:
The Principles and Practices
of
Dialogue Education
This four-day workshop teaches the
basics of curriculum design and facilitation applies the insights of Jane Vella's book Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach using the Dialogue
Education Approach, with a special emphasis on learning
styles, group dynamics and setting verifiable learning objectives.
It includes two practice teaching sessions where the learners
apply what they are learning and receive feedback.
Who Should Attend?
The participants are typically people from the voluntary, private,
academic and government sectors who are involved in facilitation,
in-house training, public education and outreach, capacity building,
managing organizational learning, and organizing business and
strategic planning meetings. Up to 16 participants may complete
the workshop each session. In-house workshops can be offered in several
languages (see below).
Why Should You Attend?
Many people are searching for ways to improve the process and
results of their training and teaching efforts. They want to go
beyond lectures and power point presentations to find ways to
really engage the participants, while still demonstrating the
results of the learning.
Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach provides
the building blocks of the dialogue education approach to curriculum
design and facilitation skills. The workshop provies a structured
approach to adult learning that complements participation with
observable results and accountability between the learners and
the facilitator.
By switching the focus from "what the instructor
says about a topic" to "what the participants will do
with the content to demonstrate their learning," adult learners
are invited to take new ideas, apply them and reflect on their
significance for their own lives and context.
When and Where is the
workshop offered?
The workshop runs for 4 days.
Public workshops are offered throughout North
America on a regular basis. Please see our workshop Schedule & Registration page for the next session nearest you.
