Certified Dialogue Education
Teacher (CDET) FAQs
A. What is a Certified Dialogue Education Teacher?
The Global Learning Partners’ Certified Teacher
designation recognizes individuals who have demonstrated their
proficiency as Dialogue Education Practitioners and who are prepared
to teach GLP’s Dialogue Education courses under an individual or
organizational license for a 2-year period. Certification is
renewable every 2 years.
B. How do I become a CDET?
Twice a year, GLP will consider expanding our cadre of CDETs. We will approach only those candidates who have been DEPs with GLP in good standing for at least one year and who have expressed interest via the following application process.
- Complete any two of the following courses: Advanced Learning Design, Learning Evaluation by Design, Advanced Facilitation Skills (pending) or another upcoming GLP Dialogue Education course.
NOTE: The Teacher Certification course has been replaced with on-the-job mentoring.
-
Submit a CDET Application Form that lists the courses you have taken, an updated resume, two references, and a plan for how you will generate opportunities for teaching Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach or other GLP Dialogue Education courses through your current professional and personal networks.
-
Submit either a second original design that models a DE approach OR an article on your experience using DE for publication in the Voices in Dialogue e-newsletter or another publication.
-
Pay a non-refundable CDET Application Fee of $250. To honor your investment of time, GLP will review your application package in light of GLP’s current and expected needs at this point, and recommend whether you should proceed with the process at this point or not.
Upon acceptance into the CDET
process, the balance of the mentoring cost of $3,000 will be paid either directly by you, and/or covered from fees charged to a client as part of a GLP course (see next step).
-
Successful mentoring with a GLP Partner or designee by:
In either case, you will receive a total of up to 2.5 days of personal mentoring from a GLP Partner or designee through coaching during the mentored teaching courses, design development of a DE-based course, and /or creating your own Dialogue Education development plan.
-
Complete the Mentored Teaching Feedback Process at least twice and submit your Mentored Teaching Feedback Forms for each session and a Next Steps for Professional Development Form.
C. How will Teacher Certification be granted?
Please understand that completing the above steps does not assure certification. Rather, completion is contingent on successful demonstration of Dialogue Education teaching skills, knowledge and attitudes. Certification will remain with the GLP Certification Committee (CC), who will decide in light of the application’s merits, applicant’s self appraisal, the mentoring feedback and recommendations by the mentor.
New CDETs will be announced at the Spring and Fall Partnership Meetings and in the Spring and Fall issue of our Voices in Dialogue e-newsletter.

E. What must I do to renew my CDET designation?
To remain a CDET, you are required to teach Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach (or another equivalent GLP Dialogue Education course) at least once within the 2 years of your CDET status.
You would also send GLP a full course report with participant feedback forms for any GLP course taught, and 2 references of current clients you have worked with.
You would complete and submit a Renewal Form along with a renewal fee of $100 that re-certifies you for another two years.
A CDET who is inactive and does not stay current with the renewal process by not teaching
Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach or equivalent within two years, will automatically become Dialogue Education Practitioners (DEP) for three years. However, an inactive CDET may re-activate her status prior to 4 lapsed years as a CDET by submitting Reactivation form and paying a $200 Reactivation Fee. This will also include an interview by a GLP Partner.
CDETs who have not taught, renewed or reactivated their status for 4 years or more, must redo the full CDET process to become certified.
F. What happens to current Certified Teachers given this new process?
The new CDET status replaces the previous “Certified Teacher” and “Master Teacher” designations. Individuals who have been certified under these two previous designations will automatically become CDETs for an initial 2-year period.
After 2 years, they will be invited to renew their CDET status according to the established protocol described in this document or choose to remain a DEP for another three year period.
