Dialogue Education™ Online
Using Dialogue Education™ to Design Effective
Online Learning Events
March 8-May 23, 2012
This intensive eight-week online course uses
the principles and practices of Dialogue Education™ to teach you
how to use these principles and practices to design effective
educational events online.
Along with colleagues who have also completed the
Advanced Learning Design
course, you will work online in diverse learning tasks, using a
variety of online tools, and with content from Dr. Vella's 2008
book,
On Teaching and Learning. By the end of this online course, you will have answered for yourself the question:
How can the principles and practices of Dialogue Education™ be implemented in the online universe?
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is for graduates of
Advanced Learning Design who are actively using Dialogue Education™ in their work, and are interested in applying Dialogue Education™ in an online learning environment.
Why Should You Attend?
The number of online courses offered by industry, government, not-for-profit organizations and universities around the world is growing. And for good reasons: Distance learning offers convenience and flexibility, reduces time spent away from home and work, and eliminates the travel costs usually associated with traditional training opportunities. But for all the benefits of distance learning, the quality of learning in online courses can be better than it is now. The competent design of online courses, workshops and training is a necessity.
What has Dialogue Education™ to offer? As a system to assure dialogue, which leads to effective, proven learning design and instruction, Dialogue Education™ can guide designers and instructors at every level. It is an accessible system, with principles and practices that apply to every learning environment – including the online learning environment.
When and Where is the workshop offered?
The course is conducted online and extends for 8 weeks (40
learning hours).
During the course: The course is primarily asynchronous for the eight weeks—participants will complete
one module per week, on your own time during that week, making sure to complete it by the last day
designated for that week’s module.
There will be 2 synchronous meetings—via Skype or telephone, scheduled at specific times. The first
meeting will be held after Module 2, and the second after
Module 8. The specific, scheduled times are to be determined with participants during the course.
Dr. Jane Vella will be giving her thoughts online after each
module, after having read all the posts.
What are the content and the learning objectives for the workshop?
The text for this course is
On Teaching and Learning: Putting the Principles and Practices of Dialogue Education into Action (Jossey-Bass,
2007) by Dr. Jane Vella.
By the end of the course you will have:
 |
experienced a Learning Needs and Resources Assessment (LNRA) online |

How will the workshop
be taught?

Marian
Darlington-Hope and
Karen Ridout, with
Jane Vella, will model and teach the Principles
and Practices of Dialogue Education™ through a series of
Learning Tasks that stress accountability, relevance and employ the
content
that you are learning. The participants will work through a range
of large group, small group and individual exercises that are
engaging and creative, all within a workshop design that provides
a structure for participation and observable results.
Class size: Limited to 15 (due to participative, learning-centered approach)
Length: 8 weeks (40 Learning hours)
Prerequisite: Must
have completed
Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach and be actively applying
Dialogue Education principles in your work. Completion of
Advanced Learning Design
is also strongly recommended, but not required.
